This blog is dedicated to creating a movement, creating an idea of a more perfect Government, and breaking the cycle of Lobbying our Representatives to vote in favor, not of the poor and middle class, but in favor of the wealthy elite while the rest of us suffer, while the rest of us struggle to survive, are crushed under medical debt, student loans, and lack of everyday necessities. This Blog proposes drastic governmental change, will make me no friends in government, but proposes an IDEA. An Idea I beg all who read this to pick up and run with. Only as a people, ONLY when we are unified, ONLY when we are free to TRULY, and directly vote on each and EVERY law we the people will be expected to obey can this situation be rectified.
My proposal, my idea is simple, but drastic. Big Business hires FIVE lobbyists for EVERY representative in both houses. No matter what they say in elections, no matter what they say while in office, our "representatives" only represent one group of people, the top 1%. They must raise $67,000 per day to keep their job, lest another person be elected who will only do more of the same. This proposal seeks to break that cycle, and after hundreds of years, use the power of technology to put that power directly in the hands of the people.
What is the answer to this problem? At this point I see only one:
Get rid of the houses of representatives. Do away with both Senate and Congress. This might sound drastic, and it is, but in a day where Osama Bin Laden is more popular than Congress, maybe it's time for such drastic change, but what will we do without our houses of representatives to "represent" us?
I propose this, Fire them all, eliminate elections for them. Instead, have the President propose laws DIRECTLY to the people of the United States, and let US vote on them as a referendum in each, every, and all cases.
But how can this be done without Americans going to the polls several times per month?
We live in an information age, an age where we already have different applications on Ipods, Ipads, and other tablets to feed info into the government on what we want. I only wish to see the next logical step taken.
Issue every voting American a unique tablet or Ipod like device where the bills Congress and Senate would currently vote on are posed DIRECTLY to we the people. The houses of representatives were established in an age where it took days for California to find out what Washington was doing. Battles in the Civil War were fought after it was over, the news had not reached that far. Gone are those days, today we live in the information age.
We live in an age where We the People, no longer need someone to ride their horse to Washington to Represent us. We can represent ourselves. I request that instead of the houses with all their filibusters, in fighting, and enormous periods of vacation, we get rid of them. Have the President draw up legislation, and from there it be sent to our tablets, issued by Social Security Number to prevent fraud. From there, it's up to we the people to participate in our government, and read/listen to these proposals. Then we the people simply vote YES, NO, or Abstain.
Why would this create a better civilization, and what would the founding fathers think? I am of the opinion that the founding fathers roll in their graves on a daily basis because of how much Big Business has taken over our government with all it's lobbying, money, and power. If technology of today had existed in 1776, our Government would have been established in a much more efficient manner. Simply put, posing laws directly to the American People was impossible in that age, today it is not.
Legislation would fly, unwanted laws repealed with little fight under a system where people voted directly on legislation. I simply wish for EVERY individual to be given their God given right to have their say in the laws they are made to abide by. The President's job would change from arguing and fighting Congress to proposing laws to the people, DIRECTLY to the people. If Americans read the laws on their issued tablets, and disagreed, they would vote NO. Without a majority, the law would not pass, sending the president back to the drawing board. If the people voted YES, then it would become law.
Other sources of Legislation would come from YOU, and your fellow Americans. Every American would have the ability to propose laws, and every American would have the ability to vote on those laws. We must stand up and take back our rights to vote. We must see the destruction of the snake that has become the houses of representatives. We must stand up for a greater and higher form of government. This is a revolutionary idea, not in place anywhere else in the world.
Imagine a country where laws that took away our rights, or destroyed resources we wished to keep could not be passed. That is what I offer to you. Imagine a country where the president can not just go to war, but rather, must present his case to the American people as a whole, and receive approval. This CAN happen if we stand unified. This is not a question of Republican or Democrat, rather a question of is our system serving us best at this point? I say it is not. How does Exxon Mobil have more say in our laws than WE the people? We must fight back this beast, we must present our case, and the desire to make our voices heard. Our current system will only continue to fail. My entire life I've watched as the houses of representatives raped the blue collar worker in favor of big business to the point that the house of representatives has become nothing more than a house of ill repute.
Through a new system such as this, we can fight to go back to a gold standard, and make our own laws as the founding fathers desired. This is a system the founding fathers of this great nation would be proud of. Imagine a society where we can bring our brothers and sisters in arms home right away. This CAN be done.
Imagine, if you will, a society where the factory worker has as much say in Washington as the president, any man on wall street, or any member of the presidential cabinet. Now, if you will, Imagine a world where those people have MORE say than the political leaders, and the rich. We are the 99%, and it's time we stop the Hijacking and raping of our government. Gone are the days where voting for a Democrat or Republican even matters. Imagine a world where the people can propose and enact laws in a matter of days, instead of waiting on the government to argue for months, or years over it. Only to see the law passed after a series of back room deals are made, earmarking billions of our tax dollars to pointless projects to suit the wealthy. Imagine a system where we would have had a say in the bailout of the banks, the bailout of Detroit, the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Imagine how much different things could be if we the people stood up and had the ability to nullify the war on drugs, the war on terrorism, pass tax laws in a manner we see fit, not as the wealthy see fit. We the people, ranging from lower class, all the way to lower upper class are drastically mis-represented in our current system of government, and I speak for the people with a simple idea to change this, to make the voice of the people not only heard, but feared. I seek an end to our nations children being sent off to wars of aggression, having little or nothing to do with a real threat to the United States.
I am but a small, blue collar worker myself. I do have a gift, a gift of intelligence, a gift of great words, and a gift of thinking outside the box. I see a solution to our problems using technology. I see a system that works with, and for we the people. A system that allows the people of the united states to decide what laws they wish to have enacted, and which laws they wish to see buried as if they never existed. I see a form of government where we can simply say no to things we do not desire, and it be followed, because it would become law. We don't need to elect someone in the hopes they will do that for us, we can do it ourselves today with the technology we have. Where martial law would never have to be enacted because we the people could be asked within a day, how we wish as a nation to react to something. If we wish to give up some of our freedoms in favor of safety, or if we are tired of seeing the bill of rights ravaged like a whore in a back alley in the name of safety. Where the patriot act has been used to fill a privatized prison system with a majority of drug offenders because they have been guaranteed a certain occupancy rate, or the state must pay a fine for every bed not filled. This is NOT the American way, this is NOT what our founding fathers wanted. This is NOT in the constitution.
Such a system is NOT without it's own inherent risks, we would have to fight to protect our system of voting. Presidential elections could be carried out via these government issued tablets. We would have to be vigilant of tampering by those who wish to gain more power, or steal the power back from us. We must become more politically aware, not through the means of mainstream media, but through ourselves. We must raise our children to be politically aware, not to be brainwashed by what they see on TV, but rather to seek out the truth in every situation. We must learn to vote in favor of freedom even when it means sacrifice or loss of life. We must plant the seed of knowledge in every child, an insatiable desire to learn a desire to learn that lasts until each human being breaths their last. We must be willing to favor blood shed over safety, because a free society is not always safe, but worse a safe society is almost never free, nor is it truly safe.
We must do this, we must do this to save the environment, to make advances in energy alternatives, to make advances in government transparency. We must do this to stop our soldiers, our friends, our family, our fathers, our mothers, our brothers, and our sisters from becoming cannon fodder for the United Nations, corrupt politicians, and big business. We must do this to save our country from the wealthy elite who would rather watch the whole thing burn to the ground for another billion dollars, than give up their wealth for a better future, not just for their children, but for us, and our children. We must do this to stop war profiteering, and the squandering of our wealth on bombing other countries, arming those who will inevitably fight against us, and we must do this to fight tooth and nail to regain the freedom we've already lost.
The goal is simple, every American votes on every law. Government is drastically reduced in size, and as a side effect, in power. No longer are frivolous secrets hidden, one party passing bills behind the back of another. Keep the president accountable not by protest, not by armed insurrection, but by the simple fact that he must have the permission of the people for legislation to become law. The money to establish this radical new system would be funded by the abolition of Congress and Senate. They give themselves raises on a yearly basis, instead of paying them, that money will establish this new system, and support it. It is every Americans duty to vote, and I wish to stand and put this duty TRULY back in the hands of the people. For too long Wall Street has thrown its weight around in the government, leaving representatives little to do but follow like sheep to the slaughter. This system would give the people the power they were meant to have. Presidents could be impeached and out of office in a matter of hours if necessary. Abusive police agencies punished for their actions, recalls on people in every facet of government. This is a way to end the patriot act, and put an end to big brother as we ourselves assume the role. We must not live to see ourselves become the evil we fight.
The fundamental concept of what is proposed, radical is it may seem, is that the 99% will matter again. We cannot be bought by lobbying, not unless Exxon Mobil plans to go door to door handing out checks to buy out the American People as a whole. If we stay educated, keep our children educated, and fight for a new system, a better system, we can wrestle control from big business and put it back where it belongs, with the people who must live and abide by these laws we have no say in anymore. I seek to change that, and I ask only for your hand in support. I ask anonymous to help me. I ask the poor to help me. I ask the rich to help me. I ask everyone, every single American to help me. Let's rise up and make change in our government the likes of which have not been seen since the bill of rights was written. I ask that you spread this message. I ask you to support this message, and if you believe in it, to fight for it. Make your voice heard. Let We the People rule this nation once more as was intended by our founding fathers. Let we the people make big business play by our rules, not by the rules they pay to have passed as law.
If we are to move for such radical action, ground rules must be established,
1: Every American who is eligible to vote MUST vote, failure to vote on laws would result in a fine, or imprisonment. We would not be talking about voting for a candidate, but on the very laws you must adhere too, and the repeal of laws we wish to do away with. Therefore it must be law that you exercise your right to vote directly on legislation. On every law there would be the option to abstain from voting. This would count as voting, but not be tallied as a "yes" or a "no", the people would be given all the powers of the houses of representatives, they have the option to abstain, so do you.
2: Voter Fraud would be made a capital offense. A system would be put into place to protect the votes coming from the government issued tablets, and tampering with this system, if ever put in place, would be paramount to treason, open doors to a coup, and would be against all I wish for people to join me in fighting for. Therefore the system established, one more noble than the worthless piles of shit in Congress and Senate MUST be protected with our lives, and in a likewise manner, anyone who tampers with the system, upon conviction by a jury of their peers must be subject to the same laws regarding treason. This includes life in prison, or capital punishment (should we agree to keep it legal). The primary objective is for the true voice of the American people to never again be silenced, by anyone or anything. A delegation of people would be elected to over see the tally of the electronic votes, and it would fall under their, and the people's jurisdiction to catch people tampering with the system put in place. It must be regarded with the highest security, and segregated from the internet.
3: Every law must be given time for everyone to vote, under this system, the president would propose laws, a minimum amount of time designated by the voters themselves must be established, and followed. Under no circumstances could any late night, or last minute bills be passed.
4: Voter laws would remain much the same as they are, Felons would not be allowed to vote, incarcerated persons would not be allowed to vote, and mentally defunct (institutionalized) persons would not be allowed to vote. The people will like all laws, have the ability to change this.If a law is proposed allowing felons to vote, and passes, then felons will be given the right to vote. This applies across the board.
5: This system has no room for trifling. Submission of pointless laws, or attempts to attack the system by overloading it with proposed laws from common people would be put before a separate elected committee to verify if this person if serious, or trying to sabotage the system. Sabotage of the system put in place is again, paramount to treason.
6: A committee would be established to transcribe proposed legislation from the sitting president, and proposals from the common people who gain enough support, into proposed legislation to be voted on by tablet, this committee would be responsible for sending the proposals to the tablets, As well as providing an audio version of the proposed legislation, word for word so that people who can not read the proposed legislation for whatever reason may hear the proposed legislation verbally. This would include a simplification of any intricate wording used in the proposals, and definitions or other foot notes to assist in understanding
7: With every proposed agenda from the President, or any proposal from the common man that gains enough momentum to be voted on, a "jury" of sorts, randomly selected from a pool would be selected as a secondary committee to oversee the actions of the first, thus providing redundancy in the system to make sure the true decisions of the People are carried out as voted upon. The pool would be changed monthly, and selected randomly from the American voters, and treated much the same as Jury Duty.
8: No other power in the land would have the ability to over-ride the decisions of the people, under no circumstances could the will of the people if voted on, and passed correctly be over ridden.
9: The Supreme court would here no cases involving decisions made by the people. This is a system set up by the people FOR the people, and the supreme court has no ability to over-ride these laws based on any law, government document, or interpretation. Once a law has been passed through this system, it is law. The Supreme court, nor any other court has jurisdiction to interfere with this process. The Supreme court may still hear court cases involving interpretation of laws passed through this system as it pertains to specific cases, but may not over ride them, or in any way declare them unconstitutional.
10: Any legislation proposed must be clearly and concisely worded, with no room for interpretation, which may be used to detract from the meaning, or clearly interpreting of the law.
11: Police may not over extend any law passed, or pervert it in any way, shape, or form. This is the word of the American people, and is intended to reign supreme in this land as the founding fathers would have wanted. Any attempt to do so means the case must immediately be thrown out of court, without any punishment to the accused, and any bail or bond monies must be returned to the defendant.
12: Until any changes are made, the current law of the land stands, putting this system in place does not immediately alter any current laws, as this would open the potential for anarchy, and/or misguided political activism.
13: The bill of rights or constitution may not be altered in any way shape or form without an overwhelming majority vote directly by the American people, with all the same requirements currently in place. This system merely replaces the houses of representatives on a state and federal level, putting the vote directly to the American people as we have the means to do so this day in age.
14: Exact numbers and percentages for passing laws will be set by the people. The president, nor any other power will have the ability to modify the people's vote, set numbers, and the peoples vote will reign supreme over all other powers in this land the only vote the President will have is the same as every man, a single yes or no vote through the same system used by the rest of the land. The President's job will only be to propose legislation through the system, and execute the laws that are passed as the executive branch. No member of government's words shall carry more weight than the vote of we the people through this proposed system.
15: These changes are not to be made only on a federal level, but state houses shall be abolished in favor of the direct referendum system as well.
This is the first draft of a new, more perfect, form of government that truly gives power to the people. I ask for input from the people, I ask for advice from the people, and I ask for guidance from the people. I am but one man who seeks to make a change in our corrupt government. This system can not be implemented by any one man, it requires an uprising of the people with a demand for their right to truly vote be given to them, and that we the people have the final, and must supreme say in our laws, and our government.
No More Representatives No More Lobbying

How such drastic changes could be made without disruption of government. (A question posed by a reader, I'm happy to answer)
This would be a radical new system, the first of it's kind in the world. It would mean drastic changes to our government, the elimination of an entire branch of government and replacing it with electronics, it's almost unfathomable, but it can be done in a smooth and efficient manner without shutting down government for even a single minute.
Here is what I propose, and how I think it should be done.
1) In the last election in which the legislative branch is voted upon as representatives, to insure redundancy, we would go ahead and elect members to both houses as we have done for hundreds of years. If you have read this blog, you will notice I make sure there is redundancy at every corner. This is our government we are talking about, we must make sure there is a backup plan, and a backup plan to the backup plan.
2) Several months before the election, the tablets would be sent out to the people. They would be operated through cell towers, with independent transmitters, segregated from all other forms of communication. The tablets issued for voting purposes would be only used for voting. These would not literally be Ipads handed out to the people to play on Facebook between votes, they would be machines strictly issued for voting. The network they would connect too would be both automatic, free, and completely separate from the other data streams going through cell towers/satellites. This must be done to ensure the American Vote can under no circumstances be tampered with. They would communicate with a unique encryption, ensuring nobody can hijack the signals. They would be issued as a machine directly attached to your social security number, and voter registration information. I would recommend the requirement of insertion of a unique card issued to it's owner to actually cast the vote. Something such as a drivers license. Again, redundancy to protect the vote. The vote of the American people under this system is scared in my opinion. Everything possible must be done to prevent even the most skilled hackers from manipulating the system.
3) In the months leading up to the election, the equipment would be handed out, and tested with a series of votes designed to assure the strength of the system. These votes would not be on laws, but simple questions with no goal aside from testing the system. Whitehat hackers would be deeply involved in trying every way possible to manipulate, or break the system. They would remain at their job forever, White Hat hackers would be retained to permanently try on a daily basis to find flaws in this system, using any technology they think might do the trick. They would essentially act as the "police" of this radical new voting system. The votes would no be legitimate votes, only a stress test of the system, but it would be the start of the new system. This time would allow for any problems to be addressed. If the system were found to be flawed to a point that it needed an extended period of work, the officials elected would be sworn into office as usual to do their jobs while the system is perfected.
4) Once the system has been proved safe, redundant, and solvent; the representatives either wouldn't be sworn into office (if this happens before terms are up and new terms begin), or they would be sent home, with their job in government done.
5) At this point, a series of votes would be posed to initiate the new system. The American people would vote on the parameters of the new system. A series of not yes or no, but rather A,B,C,D votes would be posed establishing what percentages of "yes" votes would be needed to pass a law. What percentage to make a change to the constitution, or apply a new amendment. How many votes must a piece of legislation proposed by the people themselves must receive to be put to an actual vote. This would involve a different system, where people looked over legislation proposed by the people on a separate page, and voted to put it to an actual referendum or not. This would work much like a petition, only it would be posed directly through the same system. The people would vote "yes I would like to see this put to a national or state vote", or "no I would not like to see this put to a national or state vote". Thereby making it a petition. Anyone would be able to make a petition, just like they can today, only the people would decide if it was to be voted on or not.
6) People would be put in place to help those who aren't up to date on technology understand and use their voting tablets. The system would be made exceedingly simple to allow much easier use of these machines than an Ipod, or other tablet. These people would act as the people who work at the polls. They would also assist the disabled in voting, much like poll workers do today. They would be sworn in to do their jobs, and see the will of those having trouble, and if they mis-used their power, would be subject to imprisonment, and serious legal charges.
7) A system of backup representatives would always be elected at every election, to be sworn in and act as representatives in the event of an attack on our country, or other event that rendered the system not solvent for a period of time. In the event they were called to task, they would be sent home as soon as the system was solvent again. Likely these people would only be called on in case of a national emergency, such as an attack on the mainland United States. There would be two people elected per state, basically putting the Senate back in place in event of such an emergency.
8) The tablets themselves would be designed to take a beating, and a system would be in place to repair or replace broken machines.
9) A delegation would be elected who's task would be to oversee the tally systems, and a rotating Jury like group to oversee them. The Primary Delegation would oversee the IT professionals working and maintaining the system to make sure no tampering takes place. The rotating "Jury" would oversee the delegation.
10) All of this would be funded by the pay previously received by the houses of representatives, along with the money they spent on frivolous bills and filibustering.
11) The commission responsible for the tally would take direct copies of the laws voted upon and passed to the president to be signed into law. There would be no option for veto as this would be a law spoken for directly by the We the People.
12) Nominations for the Supreme Court, and all other things that need congressional approval would pass through this system. Giving the people a direct say in all facets of government.
At this point, I think the system would be solvent, and able to be used on a daily basis, I have merely outlined a manner in which it would be implemented. It would be up to the people of this country to support it on a continuing basis. Modifications to the system would be made via a vote to the American people just like anything else.
In addition to the other committees, there would be a committee more responsible for writing legislation to be put to a vote as they see fit. This would be put in place to streamline the system further, and keep the number of petitions for laws down. There would be a committee on a Federal, and State level. They would be responsible for putting laws that are in the process of change to a vote. I'll use the legalization of Marijuana as an example as it's currently being passed slowly state by state. These committees would avoid the petitions for such votes by going ahead with the legislation, and putting it to a vote. The President, and Governors would be responsible for execution of laws, as well as creating a budget for the people to directly vote on.
As always feel free to respond with any further ideas.

Why is what I put forth in this blog such an important idea, and what is an Idea TRULY worth?
Ideas are invaluable. The patent system would attempt to have you believe ideas, concepts, and inventions are worth a set amount of money. This is wrong. In order to advance as a civilization we need to learn that we must free ideas, free inventions, and free information.
As many of you sit memorized by the mainstream media, the distractions put into the news as the truly important stories are ignored, and junk television designed to keep you a mindless zombie. To quote Timothy Leary (though under a different context) I ask you to tune in, turn off, and drop out. Turn cable off, and seek your news from independent sources online where the Government can not step in and stop the news networks from showing the dead children in Gaza. Our Government does not want you to see the bodies that pile up. We live in a nation where we are denied seeing the dead bodies our decisions leave behind.
There is always collateral damage in war, nobody returns unharmed from war, it does not take a bullet to leave a person permanently wounded from war. The things they see, the things they experience, and the loss of their brothers stays with them for a lifetime. We have an extreme number of people coming back from the oil wars we are fighting right now, and committing suicide. We should ask ourselves WHY? What have these people seen that drive them to put a gun in their mouth. We should strive to help them. Help stop the 25% of war vets coming home to commit suicide.
We believe we are not censored here in the United States, we think the bill of rights protects us. It does not. The bill of rights has been undermined, and destroyed almost completely. The only thing we have left is our guns. Due process, Search and Seizure, freedom of the press, all are gone. You can be searched no matter what today. Locked up without due process. The press is in nothing more than cahoots with the government to further it's agenda.
Our Media is controlled by the same wealthy elite who pay off our politicians to represent only themselves. We see people's property being taken away under "Eminent Domain" so that it can be developed by the rich. This was not why this law was put into existence. I know several people now who are loosing their land under such circumstances. I ask simply where does it stop? American Citizens are TIRED of the greed, tired of having things taken away, paying taxes we can not afford. The people who are loosing their land weren't even fairly compensated for it. In reality in one case, it probably did more damage for them. Their land was taken leaving some several dozen feet between their house, and a highway. Now I ask, they were not fairly compensated for the land taken, and how much will a house be worth when the back porch view is a lovely view of a highway. That probably takes some 50K from the value of the home. These people are being screwed!
At what point do the scales tip, and we begin to care more about the people of this country than we do about business. At what point does the small man matter. One of the men basically loosing his home by loosing his ass on it served our country. This is how we treat our war veterans? This man has to fight tooth and nail for every step in the process of dealing with the VA, and the government comes along and screws him out of his land and home too, costing him tens of thousands of dollars without consideration of what they are doing to this man.
We were encouraged to buy homes in High School, saying it was an infallible investment. So many did just that, they lost their asses on the houses. We were encouraged to buy stock, the people who did lost their asses. We must overcome this monster that rears it's ugly head in our government. The Government was NEVER intended to be controlled by cooperate giants. We have it in our heads that we are but a small person, incapable of taking on these giants, but the truth is, we are more capable than we may ever realize.
This country was founded by defeating the biggest empire in the world. We stood up as small men from different tribes, different churches, and we united against the British. We won that fight, and our independence.
The founding fathers never intended for our income to be taxed. Income taxes are unconstitutional. We must rise up and develop a system based on what the founding fathers said. We must put Capitalism in check, we must tell these people we are tired of eating the crap they are feeding us. The fruits of our labor, earned from the sweat from the brow of our labor is squandered by our government. Given to Israel to kill chidlren. Given to many countries around the world either not to make war, or to make war depending on the situation.
Let it not be forgotten, we GAVE Saddam Hussein the nerve gases he used on the Kurds. We bought the AK-47's that were used against us in both gulf wars. We armed the Taliban. We armed Iran. We are in the process of arming many more militias around the world. We must stop and ask ourselves if this is the correct approach to a better future. Will these weapons be used for the good of us as a nation, or be turned on us in a decade. We have yet to arm a militia who did not turn on us. Why do we continue to implement failed policies, when it's the very definition of insanity it's self. This is but another of the terrible cycles we must break. The only question that remains is how and when will the cycle be broken? Will we let it go so far as to require an armed insurrection within the United States, or will we stand up and fight when protest still works?
I favor a non-violent solution, and taking a stand against these atrocities. We must become a self aware civilization. We must learn from the failures we have experienced, and instead of repeating the same mistakes, we could take a different road. We could take the high road as a nation. We better bring a machete along the way because the high road hasn't been taken in a while, and has become quite grown over. The only question is how far will we allow it to go before we decide to make a change. When will we as a nation learn that our current systems are not working, and it's time to find a new way. It's time to stand up for our rights before they are taken away by fear mongering, war profiteering, big business loving government.

Thank you for taking the time to read my ideas! (I seek no personal glory in this, only to spread ideas)
So far this page has gotten more views than I expected it to receive EVER. Within 48 hours I crossed my goal of views. My hope of this page going Viral, and being seen by a fair portion of our society is a possibility I didn't think would EVER be possible, and I want to think the people who have taken the time to read my ideas. I've received some positive comments from people who I admire greatly, and I have been encouraged to keep it up. To quote a dear cousin of mine, "We need more people to think".
I ask you my viewers to spread the news, spread the ideas set forth on this page. I seek no personal glory from this, only to have good ideas heard, and spread. Share this to your facebook if you believe as I believe, Share this with your parents, your siblings, your children. I ask you to realize we must educate our children in politics. If we want to continue to tell our children they can be whatever they want in ilfe, we must teach them from an early age about freedom, what freedom really is, and just how much of it we are loosing. We must learn not to teach our children fairytails, but rather that life is hard, life is cold, and life does not care. It does not discriminate.
From my point of view the worst thing a person can do is to tell their children they can be anything they want when they grow up without exposing them to the reality that unless we fight for our freedom, and fight for change, change a president cannot offer, change our Government will not offer, then they may be forced to skip college in favor of working hard labor intensive jobs.
I'm not telling anyone how to raise their children, but as a man who was told as a child I had the world by the nuts, when in reality I didn't have a snowball's chance in hell without racking up student debt that could take decades to pay in full. I felt betrayed for a very long time. We must seek to leave future generations prepared for the world they will face. Educate them on the idea that NOTHING in this world is free. Freedom it's self is not free. Freedom is the costliest thing we have, but more than worth the price. We must seek to raise a more informed and politically active generation. I have faith in my generation who has already stood u in mass protest against the machine our government has become to do these things. To tell our children that life will be nothing but one difficulty after another, and will never relent. We must teach future generations the true cost of freedom. Sandy Hook, Aurora Colorado, Columbine, all school shootings, and all mass killings with guns are the price we pay for the freedom to bear arms. We must never relent to such fear.
9/11 was a horrible event, but look at what fear did to us as a nation. It allowed the passage of the patriot act. Fear is something we must as a society learn to overcome. We must take to heart what FDR said in that "the only thing we have to fear, is fear it's self". We must not give in to fear, and allow our government to take away our rights to "protect us". When Thomas Jefferson said "the tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of tyrants and patriots alike". Are we safer as a result of the patriot act, or are its boundaries already being over stepped? Do we want cameras on every street corner in the name of safety, or are we willing to take the risk of loosing our lives in favor of true freedom, freedom to not be watched, and our communication intruded upon. Make no mistake, there will be more deaths in the future, and we will be asked if we believe those deaths are justified in the name of liberty, or will we let our government take away more of our rights in the name of safety.
A safe society is not free, a free society is not truly safe. I'm not saying the government is out to take our guns away, but rather asking each individual, what price are you willing to pay to remain truly free? I personally would rather risk airline hijackings than to be violated in the manner I am every time I enter an airport. We have to ask these questions, and make the decisions as hard as they are. It's hard not to be scared, or feel great apathy for the people who die in these horrible events. We must not fail to remember the true cost of freedom. We must understand that we can die in the name of liberty without being in war, or without a shot fired.
We must draw lines, and decide where the government has gone too far. Is it real liberty for New York City to limit the size of soft drinks? Is it real liberty for the government to tell us what we can, and can not eat. Is it fair for people to push for all organic farming when it's not possible to support the world's population through organic farming. We must teach future generations all these things from a young age. Teach them to understand it's not our government's place to tell us what we can eat, what, and how much we can drink. We must learn NOT to fold in the face of fear. We must understand that these are simply the prices we pay to remain free. It's not the American way to fear anything anyway. What would the founding fathers say?
Would George Washington cave to the fear of a terrorist attack? One of the greatest most noble things we can do for our children to leave them a better nation is to live without fear, teach them to do the same, and teach them WHY they must live without fear. If I were a victim of a shooting my opinion would not change. We need to raise these people up as martyrs for our freedom. We must learn not to give up freedom for safety, but to seek to make our country safer without sacrificing the most important thing we have. The Government will take all they can from us, they've but proved it over and over. With the backing of big business, they will become more, and more renegade. They will continue to take our freedoms all the while telling us we are "safer". Like all governments with too much power, our Government is capable of all the same things. We must keep the military on our side, the military is made up of our brothers and sisters, and we must support them. Even if we don't support the actions they are ordered to take, we must still support the soldiers themselves. They are not the enemy. The enemy is the government that seeks to undermine our freedoms.
Do not shelter your children, rather teach them the reality of life. Life is cruel, it will break everyone at some point. It's our ability to rebuild ourselves, and to fight for our rights that separates us from the rest of the world. A hand full of people, including my mother vehemently make it known they do not support what I write here. I am willing to fight for their right to do just that. Freedom of speech means we must tolerate that which we do not agree with. Furthering our civilization requires that we learn tolerance, lack of fear, willingness to fight in the face of tyranny, and an unspoken agreement that we as the People will fight back when our freedom to say and do as we please. We must support even the right of the Westboro Baptist Church for instance because we cannot pick and choose when it's ok to say what you want, and when it's not. Freedom of speech goes across the board.
We are on the cusp of change, we are on the very edge of making a great change in our nation, Occupy Wall Street was but the first shot fired, we the people have much more ammo, and must be willing to use it. We must pass these beliefs to the future generations. The changes we seek will not come overnight, or next year. They won't come with the next election, but they WILL come if we stand unified and press the issue without yield. We have to teach our children these things. We must never surrender one drop of our freedom in favor of safety. We must never give up, never give in to fear. We must be willing to sacrifice. We must be willing to protest, and we must above all be willing to accept that freedom is a costly thing. It will on occasion cost us dearly, but the other options are so much worse. Without people willing to stand up and say "I do not care how many people died, we must not give up our liberty to fear", then the great experiment is doomed, and we will never be safer for it to begin with.
I ask all to do the greatest service they can to future generations, and not shelter them. Expose them to the reality of the world, the reality of freedom's real price, expose them to the suffering of others in this world, and instill in them a desire to change the world. We all have the power to make change. We must realize that we are but citizens of the United States, and we must maintain our freedom; more importunately though, we are citizens of the world, and we must desire to see the children of Africa, Asia, and all poor nations to be given the opportunities we have. We must learn not to do this through war, but through ideas.
Ideas will change the world at a faster pace than guns or bombs EVER will. Remember that Guns and Bombs are but a backup plan for when others desire to impose their will on us, removing all our freedoms. We must learn to not seek war, but to seek the spread of ideas more than ever. We must push for our Government to spread ideas instead of weapons most of all. We didn't bring democracy to Vietnam with a gun, but rather with diplomacy and ideas after we stopped the war. Before we can spread the idea, we must grasp it ourselves.
